artist statement
I am a photographer based in South Florida creating works that blur the line between photography and painting. I view my camera as an extension of my hands, much like a painter uses a paint brush. Like the corners of a painter’s blank canvas, my canvas is revealed through the viewfinder of my camera. I use my camera in ways that allow me to create moods unrelated to objectivity, and ultimately, works that evoke an emotion. My photographs are brought to life by employing elements of water, wind and light. These elements are fluid, and when impacted by movement, capture a moment in time that cannot be duplicated. In my creative process, I enjoy the unplanned aspect of surprise, and not knowing what the ultimate outcome will be. As I work, I am looking for photos that reveal themselves - those that have the right abstract qualities involving color, line, shape and texture. Overall, the resulting abstractions are a combination of these elements, every frame being unique and unexpected.
